Berkshire Bank Named Official Bank of the 2019 Pan-Mass Challenge

Makes Four Year Commitment Which Includes Employee Rider and Volunteer Involvement

Needham, MA - The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is pleased to announce that Berkshire Bank has signed on to be the official bank of this year’s ride.  Berkshire Bank has made a four-year commitment to support the organization’s riders, volunteers and donors in their efforts to make an impact in the fight against cancer. As part of Berkshire’s sponsorship, an employee team will participate in the weekend charity ride, and its nationally acclaimed corporate volunteer program, XTEAM®, will assist in various roles along the route.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Pan-Mass Challenge to help raise money and awareness for cancer research and treatment,” said Paul Kelly, Regional President of Berkshire Bank. “This sponsorship provides Berkshire Bank with an opportunity to continue our legacy of giving back to the communities in which we serve. We are proud to continue that legacy with the PMC, an organization which many of our employees are passionate about.”

“We are very pleased that Berkshire Bank has expanded its support of the PMC with a four-year commitment as our Official Bank, and as riders and volunteers as well,” said Billy Starr, Pan-Mass Challenge founder and executive director. “Each year, we attempt to increase our impact and yearly gift to Dana-Farber. We are able to do what we do thanks in part to partners, like Berkshire Bank, who match our passion for making a difference in the fight against cancer.”

The PMC is the nation’s most successful single athletic fundraising event, raising and contributing more money to charity than any other. On August 3 and 4, 2019, more than 6,400 cyclists and 4,000 volunteers will participate in the two-day bike-a-thon with the goal of raising $58 million to support patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber. One hundred percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the cause. If accomplished, this fundraising goal will bring the organization’s 40-year contribution to more than $712 million. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor, raising more than 55 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The 40th PMC will take place on August 3 and 4, 2019. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $654 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause, generating 54 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue as Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors, all of which are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
